What is the Care Agenda?

Millions of Americans rely on long-term care to live with dignity at home and in our communities, yet far too many cannot afford the care they need. And the current system isn’t adequately supporting the loved ones whose family members need care — or the workers who provide it.

But caregivers in California are leading the way to make changes.

The Care Agenda is an effort to envision the future of long term care and what care can look like in our state. We want to improve the quality of care and protect the dignity of seniors and adults and children with disabilities. We want care jobs to be good jobs, allowing caregivers to earn family-supporting wages and have meaningful opportunities.

Our vision is a comprehensive system of financing services and supports regardless of age, ability or income. This vision includes:

  • A flexible LTSS benefit responsive to each person’s unique needs that is administratively efficient and supports quality services
  • Benefit ranging from $100 to $200 per day to cover a range of needs at home and in the community
  • Individuals would become eligible based on an assessment of their need for assistance with Activities of Daily Living and/or cognitive impairment
  • Exploration of new funding streams, including a payroll tax or alternative revenue source
